Download Sn0wbreeze 2.9.2 For Windows To Tether-Jailbreak iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, iPod touch On The Latest iOS 5.1
If for some reason you prefer using ih8sn0w’s Sn0wbreeze over iPhone Dev-Team’s Redsn0w, the good news for you is that it has just been updated to version 2.9.2, bringing tethered-jailbreak support for the latest version of iOS.
Earlier this week, iOS 5.1 was released to public which closed the jailbreak exploit used in both Corona and Absinthe. iPhone Dev-Team was quickly up to task in updating Redsn0w to version 0.9.6b10, bringing tethered-only jailbreak support for all iOS devices except for the A5 based iPhone 4S and iPad 2. The reason why A5 based devices cannot be currently jailbroken is because of lack of bootrom level exploit on the new A5 chip. This tethered jailbreak for older devices (such as A4 and below) is possible largely due to Geohot’s limera1n exploit.
Coming back to this release of Sn0wbreeze, you can use it to tether-jailbreak iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, and iPod touches by restoring to a custom-cooked-jailbroken-firmware of the latest iOS 5.1 release. The instructions for jailbreaking using this version of Sn0wbreeze is the same as previous version, which you can follow here.
Also as this is a tethered jailbreak, your iOS device will need to be plugged in to your computer every time it is powered on, in order to boot into a jailbroken state. This can be done using Sn0wbreeze’s built-in iBooty utility.
Redsn0w users (for both Windows and Mac) can also create custom firmwares without the updated basebands. Custom firmwares are handy for iPhone users who rely on carrier unlocks such as Ultrasn0w or GEVEY SIM. It is important to note that current version of Ultrasn0w does not support iOS 5.1. The iPhone Dev-Team though has promised to update it in near future, bringing support for iPhone 4 and 3GS users running iOS 5.1 on older basebands.

iOS 5.1 For iPhone, iPad, iPod touch (A4 Devices) Can Now Be Jailbroken Using Redsn0w 0.9.10b6 [How-To Tutorial]
The iPhone Dev-Team – reliably as per usual – have updated its Redsn0w jailbreak tool, allowing those using the latest iOS 5.1 to set their devices free. It works for all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices except, of course, the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2.
Additionally, as you may already be aware, the jailbreak is tethered, meaning you will need to connect your device to a computer to boot tethered each time it is switched off for whatever reason. The ‘SemiTether’ patch eases the tethered scenario by allowing devices to boot without connecting to a PC or Mac, although features are extremely limited, thus it will have to be booted tethered in order to function at optimum level once more.
Of course, it’s not as exciting as the fully-untethered jailbreak with all the bells and whistles; but we reckon that it’s better than no jailbreak at all!
As usual, we’ve got the tutorial to help you in your quest to jailbreak your iOS 5.1 device.
NOTE:
- As already mentioned, this jailbreak does not work on the iPad 2 or iPhone 4S.
- If you unlock with GEVEY or Ultrasn0w, DO NOT update to the stock iOS 5.1 firmware. Skip to the latter part of this guide for more info.
- You will be booting tethered quite a bit, so if you don’t think you can deal with constantly connecting and rebooting, wait for an untethered or downgrade to iOS 5.0.1/4.x.
With the formalities complete, let’s start the show!
How to jailbreak iOS 5.1 using Redsn0w
Step 1: Download the latest version of iTunes (10.6)
Step 2: Open up iTunes, and back up your device.
Step 3: Upgrade your firmware to iOS 5.1. [download links]
Step 4: Download the latest version of Redsn0w (Windows/Mac)
Step 5: Start Redsn0w, select "Jailbreak" then "Install Cydia". Follow the steps to place your device into DFU mode.
Step 6: Now we move on to the process where you will need to repeat every time your device is switched off. This is called tethered boot. Launch Redsn0w, select "Extras", then"Just Boot" in order to boot your device tethered.
Booting Semi-Tethered (Optional)
The "SemiTether" patch may work through to 5.1. It’s a cross between tethered and untethered – allowing you to boot your device without a computer, but the available features are somewhat limited, so you’ll need to boot tethered through Redsn0w in order to enjoy a fully-functional break. It’s free, and available over at the BigBoss repo: http://thebigboss.org/semitether.
Note To Unlockers:
If you use the GEVEY SIM interposer or Ultrasn0w to unlock your iPhone, you will need to create a custom .iPSW, in order to preserve your baseband.
In Redsn0w, select "Extras", then "Custom IPSW", locate your iOS 5.1 file, and let Redsn0w work its magic.
Then enter pwned DFU mode (Extras > Pwned DFU) and restore to your custom firmware via iTunes. After that, you’ll be able to unlock with GEVEY, Ultrasn0w fixer, or Ultrasn0w (when it is available).

Downgrade iOS 5.1 To 5.0.1, 5.0, 4.3.3, 4.3.5 On iPhone, iPad, iPod touch [How-To Tutorial]
Whether you have been experiencing battery woes, or you are just pining for an untethered jailbreak, there are a variety of reason as to why you may wish to downgrade your device from iOS 5.1 back to iOS 5.0.1 or 4.x.
So long as you’ve saved the SHSH blobs of the firmware you wish to downgrade to (Cydia’s homepage will notify you – as shown below), then you can quickly remove yourself from what is fast becoming a fiasco of an iOS 5 release.
Important Note: Before you begin, keep in mind that the iPhone 4S cannot be downgraded to an earlier version of iOS, unless Apple is signing that particular firmware version to which you’re downgrading to. Only the iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1 and the iPod touch users can downgrade back to both iOS 5.0.1 (custom firmware only) and iOS 4.x as long as they have SHSH blobs and APTicket saved for the firmware they are downgrading to. iPad 2 users can only downgrade back to iOS 4.x as long as they have saved SHSH blobs for it. You cannot save SHSH blobs once Apple has stopped signing the firmware you want to downgrade to.
All set? Let’s begin:
For downgrading to iOS 5.0.1/5.0 custom firmware using iFaith
As mentioned above, if you have both APTicket+SHSH blobs saved for iOS 5.0.1 or 5.0, you can downgrade your device to a custom iOS firmware. This however wont work on iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Only iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, and iPod touch users can downgrade to iOS 5.x custom firmware using this method.
Step 1: Simply download the latest version of iFaith for Windows from here, official stock iOS 5.0.1 firmware from here.
Step 2: Build a signed firmware file by clicking on ‘Build *signed* IPSW w/Blobs’.
Step 3: Browse for the SHSH blobs file that you previously saved for your current device to downgrade back to the old 5.0.1/5.0 firmware. Next, iFaith will ask you to select the stock firmware of which you want it to create custom firmware file from. Once done, iFaith will have a new custom firmware file for you waiting on the desktop with SHSH blobs incorporated for the firmware you are downgrading to.
Step 4: Next, enter DFU mode using iFaith and then simply use iTunes to restore to this custom firmware file.
That’s it! you are done.
For downgrading to iOS 4.3.5 and below
The following instructions applies to iPad 2, iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, and iPod touches with SHSH blobs saved on Cydia or by using TinyUmbrella for the iOS 4.x firmware you are downgrading to. iPhone 4S again is not supported.
Step 1: Download the iPSW of the firmware version you would like to revert to, as listed below:
Step 2: Connect your device to your PC or Mac, and slip it into pwned DFU mode using the latest version of Redsn0w (look for Pwned DFU option in “Extras”).
Step 3: Next, you’ll need to edit your hosts file. It can be found in Windows > System 32 > drivers > etc on Windows or just etc on OS X. Back it up somewhere safe, and then open it with a text editor such as Notepad or TextEdit.
Step 4: Add the following the following string to the bottom of the file, refer to the screenshot for further assistance:
74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
Step 5: Open iTunes and select your device on the left pane. Hold down Shift (Win) or Alt (OS X), click Restore and locate your elected iOS 4.x iPSW from the first step.
Step 6: Ignore Error 10xx if it pops up – it’s to be expected. Use TinyUmbrella or Fix Recovery to kick it out of recovery mode.
You’re done! You should have a fresh install of your chosen iOS 4.x firmware version. If you downgraded for purposed of jailbreak, then those of you with an iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, and iPod touches can use Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze to untether jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1.

The new iPad has 10-hour battery life, is 0.6mm thicker and 0.067lbs heavier
Apple just finished its iPad 3 presentation at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and now we have full tech specs, among which the new Retina Display is its defining feature. But what about the little things? Per pre-event rumors and whispers, the new iPad is a tad heavier and thicker than its predecessor.
The new iPad is 9.4mm thin and weighs in at 1.4lbs. As for the iPad 2, it is 8.8mm deep and weighs in at 1.33lbs (WiFi model). This makes the new one full 0.6mm thicker nad 0.067lbs heavier, but we somehow doubt anyone but the most eagle-eyed fans will notice the difference.
As for its battery, iPad 3 maintains the same ten-hour battery life as both the original iPad and iPad 2. Steve Jobs highlighted the fact at the iPad 2 unveiling, underscoring how iPad 2 features the same “legendary” battery performance as the original model. “We don’t want to give that up”, he said, adding that “this has been tried and tested by many reviewers”.
Apple confirms A5X with quad-core graphics in new iPad
After unveiling the new iPad’s Retina Display, Apple execs are onstage right now confirming the the new iPad will indeed run a new A5X processor with quad-core graphics. Apple said the chip is “twice as fast” as Tegra 3 and provides “four times the performance”. We’ll update this post when we learn more on the specifics.

Apple iPad 3
The new iPad is official, with Retina display, LTE and A5X CPU. Available March 16t
There's also a new iSight camera on board that's quite similar to the version inside the iPhone 4S. It's a five-megapixel, backside illuminated sensor with and a five element lens. It's also capable of capturing 1080p video, which should come as no surprise. We're also excited to see the keyboard sporting a brand new dictation key that lets you speak instead of type -- yes, just like on Android. The new software inside will also let you use the slate as a portable WiFi hotspot... so long as the carriers are game.
Perhaps most exciting though, is the new connectivity options -- you guessed, LTE! The new iPad is sporting 21Mbps HSPA+, but it's also rocking an LTE radio capable of pulling down 73Mbps on both Verizon and AT&T here in the US. Outside of the states Rogers, Bell and Telus will also be scoring 4G flavors of the iOS tablet. Amazingly enough, even with an LTE antenna on board, Apple is still claiming to get 10 hours of battery life. That's probably partially do to the slightly increased weight of 1.4lbs, though the 9.4mm thickness is nothing to sniff at.
The new iPad will be available March 16th, starting at $499 for the 16GB WiFi model and scaling up to $829 for the 64GB version with 4G. So, on the price front, nothing has changed. Pre-orders start today in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia, with much of the rest of the globe to follow on March 23rd.

Step 4: Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”.
At this stage you will be presented with a screen where you will be guided on how to enter DFU mode. Quickly hold “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.
Step 5: Wait until you get iOS 5.0.1 jailbroken in few minutes. Congratulations.
It’s okay to re-run this redsn0w over an existing device jailbroken at iOS5. Just choose “Jailbreak” again and de-select Cydia (in other words, all the checkboxes will be unchecked).* If you are lucky enough to have an old-bootrom iPhone3GS, please pre-select the IPSW first (redsn0w can’t yet auto-detect the FW version of your old-bootrom 3GS if it’s already been jailbroken).

How To Jailbreak iPhone 4S, iPad 2 Untethered On iOS 5.0.1 With Absinthe [Video Tutorial]
Absinthe is a GUI tool which is intended to provide an untethered jailbreak for the following devices and firmwares:
iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0, 5.0.1 (9A405 and 9A406)
iPad 2 Wifi/GSM/CDMA running iOS 5.0.1
Absinthe iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak For iPhone 4S/iPad 2
NOTE: Please make sure you take a full back up of your device before beginning. The Absinthe program uses a new jailbreak technique, and although no problems are expected, the development teams waive any responsibility if anything does go wrong.
Step 1: Download the compressed Absinthe package. Extract all files and run the executable file. Download link in the end.
Step 2: Connect your iPad 2 or iPhone 4S to your Mac or Windows computer using a USB cable and launch the Absinthe tool and you will be presented with a GUI as shown below:
Step 3: You will notice a button on the right hand side of the Absinthe program which says ‘Jailbreak’. Once your device is connected, click that button to begin the process. What looks like a restore will begin on your device with the words ‘Restoring in Progress’ being present. Please do not touch the device, the process can be quite time consuming.
Step 4: Once the restore is completed, unlock your iPhone / iPad and look for the ‘Absinthe’ icon which will now be located on your device’s Springboard. Tapping the icon will momentarily launch the GreenPois0n website, before causing your device to reboot. After the reboot is completed, the aforementioned Absinthe icon will now be replaced by a beautiful brown Cydia one.
NOTE: If you are receiving an ‘Error establishing connection’ message at this stage, exit to your Springboard and be patient. The website servers are experiencing a tremendous increase in traffic so just keep trying to launch the Absinthe ‘app’. Alternatively, as a quick fix you can head over to the SETTINGS > GENERAL > NETWORK > VPN entry and then toggle VPN to ‘on’. This will cause an error message to be generated, which will reboot your device when dismissed. You can then launch the Absinthe icon again.
Step 5: The steps are all over. Your device is booted into a jailbroken state. You can now launch Cydia and follow through the process of setting up your favorite tweaks and extensions.
As you can see, the process has been made as simple as possible using this new powerful tool. The steps ands relatively easy and there isn’t much work involved, but remember to make that important back up.
