Let's run through what you need to do, and you can let me know if you did all this.

1) install Java and the SDK

If you have Java installed, make sure it works and you have the latest version.

You can check the version by clicking Start->Run and typing in cmd

this will open a command prompt, at the prompt type

java -version

If all of this doesn't work, have the output (or lack of) of this command in your next reply.

2) download activation-bypass for the device
The tool is available here:

Instructions for this are on the page you linked, so I assume you did this, but they are nested pretty deep, and it would be natural to skip this step, so no worries!

3) before running the activation-bypass, boot your device into recovery mode.

remember, don't connect the device to the computer yet, follow the instructions:

• Remove the battery from the device.
• Hold down the device's volume up button.
• Connect the USB cable to the device and your Computer.
• Re-insert the battery.
• Release the volume up button.

After the USB icon shows up, then run the activation-bypass program by opening a command prompt (Start->Run cmd) and changing to the directory (cd c:\windows\whatever you need to figure this one out on your own!) where you downloaded devicetool.jar and type this:

This runs pretty fast, if it still does not work, then it may be that your device has an ancient version of webOS on it and needs to be doctored.

If that is the case, then doctor the device using the instructions on the page you already have.

Boot into recovery mode, again.

Run webOS Doctor, it came with the dev kit (I think! if not, get it here: http://ws.palm.com/webosdoctor/sorry.htm )

Now, if you successfully ran webOS Doctor (it will take some time!), go back to the activation-bypass step above, and do that again, you need to boot into recovery mode AGAIN!

hi all, i have found out how to use the the app catalog if you use the developer activation bypass. first you download preware using WEBOS QUICKINSTALL, on precentral can find how to install homebrew.

then in preware search look for a patch called "Show FirstUse App" and "Enable Profile Creation Activation Bypassed" then install it and restart luna

after luna is restarted connect to wifi network because but also turn off airplane mode so it says you are connected to your carrier even though you have no service and never signed up! (thanks palm for letting dev activation bypass exist!) then run the firstuse app and set up a palm profile and after you complete the little "how to use the pre tut" and it says "HAVE FUN" close it and open up the app catalog and download away!
